Claymation

October 26th, 2007 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

Students in Room 22 are studying Antarctica this term as 2007 is the Year of the Polar Regions. One component of this learning will be to create a claymation (animated clay)  with a theme of Antarctica. Students will learn to use clay animating software that is free to download at http://www.clayanimator.com/english/stop_motion_animator.html . This is an activity that will engage students in their learning and interested students could create other animations at home with access to a web cam. Here is an example of the type of animation possible which I created in 5 minutes. penguin-blob.wmv

Here are some of the claymation video’s students have created.

Several students in our class have been enthusiastically creating origami this year. We are fortunate to have some very talented students in this area who have taught their peers how to make several different models. Leandro has amazed us with his paper folding skills and has put together some instructions on how to make his dragon at the following link. origami-dragon.doc

Lunar Eclipse

August 30th, 2007 by · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

During term 2 students in room 22 learnt a lot about the solar system, space exploration and ethical issues surrounding this topic. Many students in room 22 poked their heads outside between 6 and 8pm on Tuesday the 28th of August to have a look at the lunar eclipse. Here are some photographs from that night.

Electronic Books

August 24th, 2007 by · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

Students in room 22 had a literacy task to write a narrative for their Buddy in Ms Lyons year 2, 3 class. Room 22 students interviewed their buddy about some of their interests, the types of books they read and gained an appreciation for their buddies reading level. With this information the year 6/7′s then set out to write their story. The electronic book was created using powerpoint and students were required to create their own pictures. Here are some of the results.

Camp

During week 3 of term 2, the year 6/7’s went on a camp to Arbury Park for 4 days and 3 nights. We went on the Tuesday and came back on the Friday. Some of the activities we did were Mission Survival, The Web of Life, Bird Watching, Freshwater life, catchment walk, night walks, a camp fire, orienteering, and eco centre, Electives (Earth art, Gardening & more orienteering). We had a booklet which had a lot of activities in it which we had to complete in our spare time. Also we had a journal which we had to write in at supper time.

Every night we had a cool activity to do like a camp fire, spotlight, dressing people up in newspaper and more night walks! We had duty groups which meant we had to clean and sweep the floors. In our spare time we had to visit our magic spot, where we had to sit and contemplate our day.

We had more spare time where we could walk around with our friends, play soccer in the gym and cool off in our dorms.  There was a small play ground and everyone lined up to go on the swings. We also hiked all the way to the top of the mighty Mount George.  There was a great sight from the top. But it was very tiring. Camp was great fun.

Recorder

Students in room 22 have been learning recorder this year. Students usually have 1 and sometimes 2 lessons a week. Most students in room 22 had not played a recorder before. We are very lucky to have some wonderful young musicians in our class. Almost half the class are involved with individual musical tuition. The other half of the class have been learning to read music for the first time. Below is an mp3 of students playing a song. You may experience lengthy delays with dial up internet.

Welcome to Room 22′s New Blog

August 7th, 2007 by · 19 Comments · Uncategorized

What’s a blog? “Blog” is a term shortened from ‘web log’ which is a user created web site in journal form. Posts can be added and are arranged in reverse chronolgical order. Blog posts are often made as news or journal entries and allow readers to leave a commentary which is added to the blog.

A class blog provides students with a wonderful opportunity to share their learning with parents. Parents and students can access the blog from any computer with internet access and view photographs, podcasts, video’s and blog entries created by students in room 22. After viewing student blog entries parents, siblings and students can then leave a response which is able to be read by all other users. “Blogging” also lends itself to communication between classes across the globe. Students can post comments on other classes blogs.

This is a very exciting opportunity for the students and families of students in room 22.
